The City of Foster City is reminding community members that the closure of the Levee Trail from the San Mateo Bridge to Anchor Road (Phase 3 of the Levee Improvements Project) is expected to take place beginning on or around April 1, 2021 (as initially announced in a February 26 press release).

“The project is ahead of the anticipated schedule so far when it comes to Phase 3, and I’m proud of the team’s efficiency as we focus on restoring trail access as quickly as we can do so safely,” said Project Manager Paul Nagengast. “We appreciate community members’ understanding and patience while the contractor’s crews are working to complete this important project.”

The Phase 3 trail closure is beginning sooner than originally planned due to early construction progress. Crews have been conducting preparation work along the trail ahead of the closure. The project is also advancing as sheet pile installation along Beach Park Boulevard began March 2 and is expected to continue through summer 2021. A revised detour map is available on the project web page, which shows the Foster City Pedway on Seal Slough as an alternative route for community members to use while the Levee Trail is closed.

As construction activities continue, the community is reminded that the closed, fenced trail and staging areas are not safe for the public, and trespassing into fenced areas is prohibited at all times for everyone’s safety. Also, please remember that bike lanes are for bicyclists only, and sidewalks are for pedestrians and joggers. The Foster City Police Department is increasing patrols in the area to help keep the construction sites secure.

To sign up for project-related emails, including regular construction updates, visit the project website at www.FosterCityLevee.org. The community is also encouraged to sign up for a 15-minute Levee Live session to speak directly with project representatives. Any construction-related issues or inquiries may be reported to the project hotline at 1-800-213-6320 (calls will typically be returned within 24 hours).
